Historical Notes | This is part of the second issue of interest-bearing currency authorized by North Carolina’s colonial assembly in 1758. The holder of this note could receive six-percent interest (about fourteen-and-a-half pence) on its face value if it were returned to the public treasury the year after its release, a date recorded here in handwriting: September 20, 1759. |

Transcription | NORTH-CAROLINA. [No.] (XX£.) ONE POUND. THIS NOTE shall intitle the Bearer to TWENTY SHILLINGS, Proclamation Money, to be paid out of the Public Treasury, with Interest, at the Rate of Six per Cent from the Date hereof, to the 10th Day of June, in the Year of our Lord, 1761, according to an Act of Assembly, passed at Edenton the 22d Day of December, 1758. Dated this Day of 1758 To be a lawful Tender in all Payments what-soever, at Par with proclamation Bill Money. Pub. Treas. |
