Historical Notes | This is another piece of North Carolina money found among manuscripts in the University Library's Southern Historical Collection. Extant bills of this May 10, 1780 authorization document that no fewer than eleven different officials, signing in pairs, affixed their names to various denomination in that issue. The autographs of James Coor[e] and J. W. Caron are on this specimen. |

Transcription | DEATH TO COUNTERFEIT. FIFTY DOLLARS. No STATE OF NORTH-CAROLINA. THIS Bill intitles the Bearer to receive Fifty Spanish milled Dollars, or the Value thereof, in Gold or Silver, agreeable to an Act of Assembly passed at NEWBERN the 10th Day of May, 1780. |
