Historical Notes | In November 1768, the month before this issue of currency was authorized, North Carolina’s colonial assembly submitted to King George III its formal opposition to the British government’s Townshend Acts. Those acts imposed taxes on wine, tea, glass, paper, and other commodities imported by the American colonies. |
