Title | Twenty-five-dollar bill of credit, 1779 |
Creator | North Carolina. General Assembly (Smithfield, N.C.) |
Date | May 15, 1779 |
Description | Twenty-five-dollar bill of credit issued and printed by Hugh Walker in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1779. |
Historical Notes | As another counterfeit-detection element and to complicate the work of criminals who tried to copy this 1779 bill, Wilmington printer Hugh Walker reversed "No[rth] Carolina Currency" along its top border. The words are difficult to interpret in this perspective; but when the bill is held up to a mirror, they are quite easy to read. |
