Historical Notes | Barely visible at the top-left corner of this 1776 bill are the letters "G.L." These initials appear on several other 1776 denominations and provide evidence that North Carolina officials contracted Gabriel Lewyn, a silversmith in Baltimore, Maryland, to engrave the printing plates for this issue. |
