Abstract | Danny Burke is a graduate of Savannah State University with a degree in financing and throughout his early career during the late 1960s and early 1970s served in many cases as the first African American in many of the positions he held. Burke was able to provide an historical narrative of his family's landownership from the early 1800s until the present which was rather precise. Burke also describes how his family has been able to hold onto its land as well as historical events such as the different phases of the Great Migration, and Vietnam War. Burke' interview does a wonderful job of placing a human face upon many of historical events that directly touched African American landowners and the quote from his father Lester Burke, " don't judge a man by his mistakes, but how fast he cleans up his mistakes" was one of those poignant points from the interview. |
