Title | Twenty-dollar bill of credit, 1779 |
Creator | North Carolina. General Assembly (Smithfield, N.C.) |
Date | May 15, 1779 |
Description | Twenty-dollar bill of credit issued in 1779 and printed by Hugh Walker in Wilmington, N.C. |
Historical Notes | This bill's counterfeit-detection mark can be seen above the "e" in the second "the." Printer Hugh Walker added an umlaut (two dots) over the letter, hoping again that potential counterfeiters would dismiss them as tiny ink splatters and would omit them from their own bogus copies of this bill. |
