North and South Carolina Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1870 by S. Augustus Mitchell Jr. in the Clerks Office of the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Hand colored print. This map of North and South Carolina bears an 1870 copyright registration, and dealer's manuscript notation attributes it to the 1870 edition of Mitchell's New General Atlas (plate 34) published in Philadelphia by S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr. The map of North Carolina reflects a situation date of 1861-1869 in respect to the creation of the state's counties. Polk County, created in 1855, does not appear on the map. With the exception of the updated copyright registration, this plate is identical to that published in the 1869 edition of Mitchell's atlas.
