Print. This map was published by the North Carolina Geological Survey and is based on the 1882 Geological Map of North Carolina by Washington Caruthers Kerr (1827-1885). It was printed by Julius Bien & Co. of New York and published in and extracted from Henry Benjamin Charles Nitze, Iron Ores of North Carolina, North Carolina Geological Survey Bulletin, No. 1 (Raleigh, 1893). The map was prepared from field work done by Nitze in 1891 and 1892 and shows the locations of iron ore deposits in the state. Counties are delineated and identified. Cities and towns, railroads, major roads, and rivers and other waterways are shown. A legend explains the symbols used to indicate the various types of iron ore deposits.
