This map was prepared from data collected by the state-wide highway planning survey as one of a series of county maps showing the federal, state, and county highway systems in each county as of January 1, 1962. The map was published as part of a paper bound set of maps entitled "North Carolina State Highway Commission Municipal, State, Primary and Interstate Highway Systems Maintenance Maps by Counties with Enlarged Municipal and Suburban Areas." Schools, churches, and other landmarks are noted; and rivers, creeks, and other topographical features are identified. A legend is in the right margin. A location map and a key to county road numbers appear as insets. A map of Burnsville and vicinity is found in the margin.
