Notes |
Booster buttons for towns were once common; this example doubles as a holiday promotion. A June 26, 1912 article in the Charlotte Evening Chronicle newspaper announced that the Fourth of July celebration in nearby Gastonia, North Carolina, was "to be Elaborate Affair" and that "the city is quite up to its slogan" that "Gastonia is a busy town." The writer reported that there would be a Fourth of July parade with floats constructed by some of the numerous Gastonia textile mills as well as several schools. An award was to be presented to the best-decorated automobile in the parade. |
