Notes |
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park was established by the United States Congress in 1934 to preserve the biological diversity and human culture of these mountains from the effects of the timber industry. The Great Smoky Mountains are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains. The Great Smoky National Park sets on both sides of the Tennessee-North Carolina border. With over nine million visits per year as of 2014, this is the most visited national park in the United States. The American black bear, a large omnivorous animal, is a symbol of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Park, the largest protected habitat for the bear in the eastern United States, is home to an estimated 1,500 American black bears. |
