Notes |
This 1979 poster was designed by Cuban artist Rolando Cordoba and distributed by the Organization in Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The subject of the political poster was the 1971 conviction and imprisonment of ten people in Wilmington, North Carolina for arson and conspiracy following the burning of a grocery store. The convictions resulted in worldwide condemnation. Several prosecution witnesses later recanted their testimony, and a federal court overturned all the convictions in 1980. Governor Beverly Perdue pardoned the surviving members of the Wilmington Ten in 2012. |
