Notes |
This pin refers to the 1971 conviction and imprisonment of ten people in Wilmington, North Carolina who had been arrested on charges of arson and conspiracy following the burning of a grocery store. Several prosecution witnesses later recanted their testimony, and a federal court overturned all the convictions in 1980. Governor Beverly Perdue pardoned the surviving members of the Wilmington Ten in 2012. |
