Grady Cole and Neva Jane Langley, Miss America 1953, on Wilmington street, holding up an X-ray.
During a pouring rain before the Azalea Festival Coronation Ball, Cole carried Langley over puddles of water and up the stairs of the Lumina Ballroom. Cole was the master of ceremonies for the event, and was rushed to the hospital after completing his duty. Some time afterward, Morton's photographed Langley and Cole holding the X-ray of Cole's spine, which revealed he had "a compressed fracture of his sixth vertebra."
