"George Glamack was Carolina's greatest basketball player in the wartime years, setting a Southern Conference record of 45 points in one game. He turned pro, playing for the Goodyear Tire pro team, which played an exhibition against his old UNC teammates in February 1942 in Woollen Gym. UNC beat Goodyear by one point when Captain Bobby Gersten shot two free throws in the closing seconds.
Glamack was known as the Blind Bomber, because his eyes were poor and there were no optical goggles or contact lenses. He made his deadly hook shot shown in progress here by reading the lines on the floor. Left to right: Bobby Gersten (#7), Ed Shytle (#13), Bob Rose (guarding Glamack), and Glamack making hook shot. Bobby Gersten says Shytle was killed in World War II soon after this picture was taken."
Glamack was an All America player at UNC in 1940 and 1941.
